Where to Start?

So today is the day I am starting this blog.  I've spent the last 2 days organizing, designing and creating the background pages on the ponies, the pets and the little slice of heaven Hubby and I call the Riley Ranch and Tiki Lounge.

My idea was like many others who start a blog.  Putting out horsie goals for the whole wide web to see so that we feel accountable for actually trying to achieve them.

I feel like I'm failing miserably from day one!

Today my goal was to actually saddle up and ride Jake.  This doesn't sound like such a vast stretch does it?  I mean, the guy is pretty bombproof.

However, I'm a bit of a coward.  There.  I've said it.  In public.

I've had Jake for quite a few years and haven't ridden him much at all.  Hence the name of the blog.  I want to ride...I really truly do.  But when it comes time to saddle up, I can think of 1,000 excuses or other things that need to be done first.  Some horsie, some not.  Like this morning.  Laundry came first even though it didn't have to.  I mean...who does that??!!!

Hubby would prefer I spend all my free time with the horses and to heck with anything household related.  He's amazing like that!

Yet...I have a thing.  Not sure why but it's a big thing.  A wall.  That I'm struggling to overcome.  So I thought I'd try this.

In any event, I did go out to the barn but Jakey Boy was a bit tender on his near front.  His hooves are not the best and he's quite prone to abcesses.  So, I did what I like best.  Groomed the both of them.

I'm as clean as I'm gonna get.  I can haz a cookie now?

First up was Dai.  I very rarely bath my ponies...I don't really have any reason to.  No riding remember?  So I brushed her up, slathered on the fly spray, gave her a cookie and turned her out in the round pen.  Before I let her go I spent a bit of time on ground work.  She's such a follower, she'll walk without a lead and follow me, stopping and turning when I do.  It's sorta cute.  But lord I don't wanna be one of those middle aged ladies who don't ride!!!  Argh!!!!

Human...you're a wimp.  Give me a cookie!

Next up was Jake.  It literally takes me 5 minutes to brush him.  I don't know what it is about his hair but he couldn't get muddy if he tried.  However, it took me 20 minutes to get the dreads outta that mane.  I'm going to tackle his tail tomorrow.  His tail is really something...drags on the ground it grows so fast!  I didn't think he'd appreciate it much if I tried to mess with it today.   I spent a bit of time tending to his feet.  Soaking and painting with Keratex.  He is the best about soaking, would stand in a bucket all day long for me.  Such a good boy he is!  I'm sure he thinks, what the heck did I do to get her as a human?!

And lastly, I stripped the stall.  It takes quite a while as it really is a big ass run in.  And the manure cart I have isn't the easiest to unload.  I have to shovel it in, then shovel it out.  So it takes a while.  On the plus side, it's double the workout.

Am I the only one who gets a great deal of satisfaction by this?

I
I think I've already violated the rules of the blogosphere.  Too many words, not enough pictures.

Ahhhh...I'll learn as I go.
